 DOMUS AUREA

After the fire of Rome, Nero had a new Palace constructed: Domus Aurea.
The Palazzo spread on a surface of approximately 800.000 square metres, and was, therefore, bigger than the Forbidden City of Peking, which is thought to be the biggest in the world.
Where you can nowadays see the Colosseum, Nero built an artificial lake on the banks of which free wild and ferocious beasts lived. Right at the entrance of his city-palace, he also had a statue in his likeness raised, which was 35 metres high.
Nowadays, out of the 127 rooms which have survived, and after approximately 20 years of restoration, you can visit round about 200 square metres and a series of halls which shall, no doubt, leave an extraordinary and unforgettable impression on you.
From the Eagle Corridor you reach Polifemo's Nymph where Nero had given orders to create a cave's atmosphere furnished with a small waterfall and hundreds of artificial stalactites.
Crossing numerous halls, you arrive at the Octagonal Hall, a banquet hall which rotated around itself …
